Compact SUVs are highly valued for their lower fuel consumption, compared to a truck and even a full-size SUV; as well as for its use of interior space and adaptability to various terrains. The Sport Utility Vehicle or Sports Utility Vehicle refers to cars with a bold and resistant appearance; that combine the qualities of an urban vehicle with an SUV. The design in this type of vehicle offers great performance both on asphalt and on more demanding terrain. Therefore, they are ideal for adventurous trips and also stand out in the city.

What is the difference between full-size SUVs and Compact SUVs?

A full-size SUV differs from a compact SUV in several parameters, such as: size; ride height; distance between axis; motorization, among others.

1. Size

Full-size SUVs are, of course, larger than compact SUVs, although their body is similar. In terms of seating capacity, full-size SUVs generally have seven seats, while compact SUVs have five seats.

2. Powertrain options

Most full-size SUVs have a 4WD option, in addition to a front-wheel drive (FWD) or rear-wheel drive (RWD) powertrain; as they are most sought after for off-road use. In the case of compact SUVs, they are usually front-wheel drive, sometimes with an AWD (All Wheel Drive) option for greater grip and control in wet terrain; it is worth noting that the AWD system differs from the 4WD or 4×4 in the way the engine delivers torque to the wheels.

3. Ground clearance

The ride height or ground clearance of SUVs is generally higher than that of compact SUVs. Similarly, the wheelbase is often longer on full-size SUVs as well.

4. Fuel efficiency

SUVs, because they are larger than compact sport utility vehicles, weigh more. For that reason, they eventually have higher fuel consumption. In other words, compact SUVs offer better mileage, with few exceptions. Everything will depend on the engine, components, materials and of course the driving style.

5. Ride quality and driving

Compact SUVs are shorter in length, but the seating position is high, the structure provides a wider stance, and it has a good distribution of space inside the cabin. This represents a great advantage for driving in the city or on narrow roads, without sacrificing comfort. In addition, they provide more confidence in corners, since their center of gravity is lower compared to full-size SUVs.
